MISSION STATEMENT

Canine cancer treatment requires a substantial outlay of financial resources, ranging on average between $600 and $6,000 per dog. Many dog owners cannot support such a large unanticipated outlay. To offer help to such individuals and their dogs, The Magic Bullet Fund provides financial assistance to pay for canine cancer treatments and medicines when the owners cannot. With our financial sponsorship, the canines we serve receive state-of-the-art veterinary cancer support for their conditions. The Fund’s mission is to provide cancer treatment for dogs whose caretakers are unable to provide treatment; dogs who would not have cancer treatment at all without our assistance.

The Fund’s secondary mission is to heighten public awareness about canine cancer through our ongoing educational efforts. We firmly believe that this work will result in measurable improvement in both canine cancer prevention and early canine cancer detection.

The Magic Bullet Fund is a program of the Perseus Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports research and public education about cancer in companion animals. All donations are tax deductible.

"IT TAKES A VILLAGE!"   The Magic Bullet Fund depends upon the support of the entire dog-loving community.

DOG LOVERS donate toward treatment for a particular dog or to the fund at large or in loving memory of a friend's pet or their own pet.

VETERINARIANS donate to the fund in tribute to patients and display donation boxes for the fund in the clinic's waiting room.

PET RELATED BUSINESSES donate to sponsor fundraising drives or by donating their products "in kind" to help the fund dogs.

PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES (negotiations are underway) Companies will provide discount vouchers to veterinarians providing chemotherapy treatment to Fund dogs. Discounts will be passed on to the Fund.

AUTHOR AND FUND ADMINISTRATOR Laurie Kaplan donates proceeds from her award-winning book, Help YourDog Fight Cancer. This is the top selling canine cancer book on Amazon.com.

THE MAGIC BULLET FUND RAISES PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT CANINE CANCER.

Fifty percent of our pets will have cancer in their lifetimes. Still, most caretakers respond to a diagnosis with shock and despair. The Magic Bullet Fund empowers caretakers to:
  • Take steps to reduce a pet’s risk for developing cancer
  • Become familiar with early warning signs that can be found during monthly at-home checkups
  • Learn about existing medical and at-home treatment options when canine cancer is diagnosed

 BIRTH OF THE FUND

The Magic Bullet Fund was founded by Laurie Kaplan in conjunction with the publication of her book, Help Your Dog Fight Cancer.

Laurie’s Siberian Husky, Bullet, fought a brave battle against canine cancer. Bullet had lymphoma, completed a 75-week chemotherapy protocol and remained in remission for the rest of his natural life — 4  years and 4 months. Bullet was 13 years and 8 months old on November 20, 2004, when Laurie lost him to renal failure.

On November 20, 2005, Laurie accepted the first dog, Regal, into the Magic Bullet Fund and the fund began to fulfill its mission in loving memory of Bullet.

WHILE BULLET WAS FIGHTING CANCER, I was very aware of how lucky I was that I had the resources to help him fight. I thanked the Universe every day. If I had missed the opportunity to take Bullet on that journey, it would have broken my heart.

In the 2 years since the inception of the Magic Bullet Fund, it has been my great privilege and honor to help 25 beautiful dogs with cancer and their people.

The Magic Bullet Fund is about giving every dog the chance he or she deserves to survive cancer. At best, it is about beating cancer. At least, it is about giving people and their dogs more time together - more time to create a few more precious memories.
Let's Make Magic!

The
Magic Bullet Fund is a division of the Perseus Foundation, a Maryland based 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.  Donations to the Magic Bullet Fund are tax deductible

The Magic Bullet Fund provides financial assistance to people who have dogs with cancer but cannot afford the high costs of treatment.

The administrator of the Magic Bullet Fund, author Laurie Kaplan, donates proceeds from her book "Help Your Dog Fight Cancer," to the fund.

THE MAGIC BULLET FUND BRINGS CANINE CANCER OUT OF THE LABORATORY, PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY AND VETERINARY CLINIC... AND INTO THE HOME.

To the caretaker of a dog with cancer, the focus is not on advancing medical science or curing cancer! It is to spare or prolong the life of their beloved companion.

The Magic Bullet Fund helps people who have made room in their homes and hearts for a canine companion, but do not have the financial resources to provide cancer treatment.

We will NOT find a cure for cancer! We WILL work with a dog's caretaker and veterinarian to ensure that real-life dogs recieve the treatment they need.
