In tribute to

 WHITNEY

What a sweetheart! Whitney's mom Patricia is a cashier at Target and has taken a second job waitressing to try to cover the expenses for Whitney's treatment.

The Magic Bullet Fund will match funds donated for Whitney's treatment.

Whitney is a 12 year old AKC registered Cocker Spaniel. You might say I rescued her from the fate of my brother. After only a few months, he was about to take the pup back because she was "too hyper." I told him I would buy the dog from him, not to take her back. My roommate and I drove to my mom's in Forney, TX to pick up our new bundle of joy! It was love at first sight. On the drive home, I turned on the radio in hopes to calm her down. "I will Always Love you" by Whitney Houston was playing. She stopped in an instant, and layed peacefully on my roomy's lap the whole way home. That's it, that's her name. Whitney.

She still chases the squirrels and rabbits in the yard, and loves to go for walks, though not as long as they use to be. When I saw a lump appearing on her lower belly in 6/06. we did the cytology and reported possible tumors of the mammory glands. In 11/06 The histopth diagnosis was mammary papillary cystadenocarcinoma, high grade malignancy. Surgery was going to be expensive. Just the testing, biopsy's alone drained what little savings I had. I could not afford this as I work as a cashier at Target. I took a 2nd job waiting tables to help earn extra money.

The good foks at Forney Animal Clinic agreed to do the surgery at a discount. It took my whole paycheck, but the tumor was removed in June 06. Then, I noticed another in late October 06. This time my mother helped out with the expense of the surgury. I asked about alternative treatments (hopeing to find cheaper methods), Dr.New at the Forney Animal Clinic suggested I talk to an Oncologist, Dr. Harris in Dallas. The office visit alone was going to be another 100.00. I began research to find organazations to help with funding. I was sorely disappointed to find out no one knew of anything. I called my Vet, SPCA, Shelters, Cocker Spaniel Rescue, I could not believe nothing was out there. Credit Cards were not an option for me. It took me about 4 months to come up with the money for the office visit.

We saw Dr. Harris in late March 07, but the tumors had grown so large. This began a daily routine of tears. While sitting in the waiting room, I found this interesting book, "Help Your Dog Fight Cancer". After reading a few pages, I knew I had to get that book. After seeing Dr. Harris, she suggested chemo treatments. My financial pipeline was tapped. There was no money at the end of the paycheck, and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. But, I didn't give up! God is faithful, and something will come. IT DID! It came in 3 forms
1) My IRS Refund, Whitney was able to get 1 chemotheropy treatment in 5/07.
2) In the process of my research, I found Laurie's website and the Magic Bullet Fund. We are still in the process, but there are Angels wathcing over her, I beleive the Lord is at work here! And
3) Whitney was accepted by petcare insurance. I call Whitney- LOVIN-HONEY! And She is my Angel. And, thanks to Laurie and her crew, there IS HOPE for all of us and our ANGELS!

God's Blessings to all!

Patricia's sweet little girl was helped to the bridge today. Surgery alone would not have been curative and due to Whitney's age, Patricia was hesitant to put her through chemo or radiation. She chose palliative care for Whitney and she enjoyed a great quality of life until Thursday when the cancer finally took its toll.
