I adopted Regal when she was 10 weeks old. Regal is a very sweet hearted Doberman. She loves to cuddle and gives the softest kisses. Her coat is beautiful, so sleek and shiny. Regal loves to ride in the car, romp in the woods, go camping and tease her sister Chevy. In 2001 I had an accident and became disabled. I now live on a fixed income. Regal and I are inseparable. Thank you for reading Regal's story. Thank you to the Magic Bullet Fund for making Regal's treatment possible. I am very grateful for any help that can be offered through this wonderful fund. You have no idea how thankful I am. The Magic Bullet Fund is Regal's guardian angel. Shirley, Regal's mommy, Turnersville NJ February 9, 2006 Regal is doing
wonderful! Her ultrasound shows she is in
COMPLETE REMISSION!! She will continue with her 25 week chemotherapy
protocol.
She will have another chemo treatment on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 that
will be week 13.
I will be able to pay for that treatment. I will need financial
assistance
after week 13.
February 21, 2006 Regal is
doing extremely well, still in complete remission! She is on an off
week this
week - no chemo. Her appetite is starting to improve. She has lots of
energy
and is playing, running, jumping and overall is back to her old self
again. Her
next scheduled treatment is on March 2 for another round of
chemotherapy. I
will need the fund's assistance for her next treatment.
March 8, 2006 Regal is
still doing just great! She had another chemo treatment on 3-2-06. She
handled it like a real
trooper! The only side effect she has is the night of a chemo
treatment; she is very tired and shakes most of the night in
her sleep. She is eating and playing. I would like to see her eat more
and gain
back some weight. She is still underweight about 10 pounds. I am so
grateful to
the Magic Bullet Fund (her guardian angel) for helping me to pay for
her last
treatment. Without the help from this wonderful fund, Regal would not
be with
us today. Her next scheduled treatment is on Thursday March 16, 2006
for another round of
chemotherapy. I will need help from the fund for this treatment.
March 21, 2006 Regal is
doing fine! She had a chemo treatment on May 16, which left her very
tired and
she wouldn't eat for a day or two. She has started to eat again now and
hopefully I can get some weight back on her. Regal has a "no chemo"
week this week. Her next appointment is March 30th. This will be week
19 of the
25 week protocol. She still is in remission (thank God and the Magic
Bullet
Fund). After week 25, we will wait and pray that this cancer stays in
remission. The weather is starting to warm up and Regal is enjoying
laying
peacefully in the sunshine. She is also playing chase and catch with
her
favorite tennis ball, but gets tired quickly now, and then seems
content to
just lay with her ball.
March 30, 2006 Regal
has suffered a small set back this week. She was drinking excessive
amounts of
water over the weekend and urinating a lot. She was not able to make it
outside
to urinate many times over the weekend. She was very lethargic, not
eating and
shaking. Monday I took her to the vet and he performed some tests. It
may be a
bladder or urinary infection, the vet has started her on antibiotics.
She was
scheduled for a chemo treatment today, but this was postponed until the
test
results come back in 5-7 days and we know exactly what is wrong with
her.
April 25, 2006 Regal
seems to be doing much better. She is not urinating in the house and
seems to
be drinking average amounts of water. She did not seem to have any side
effects
from her last chemo treatment. Her appetite is much improved and she
looks like
she is gaining some weight. She now has interest in her bones and even
tries to
sneak them into bed with her. She seems to have a lot of energy and
constantly
wants to go outside and play. Overall, she seems to be her old self
again.
Thanks again to the Magic Bullet Fund for helping to make her survival
possible. She has another chemo treatment on April 27th. This will be
week 23
of the 25 week protocol!
May 16, 2006 Regal had her
last chemo treatment on Thursday 5-11-06. We are so excited
that she made it through the entire 25 week protocol!! She is doing
absolutely
fabulous! She is eating and drinking normally. She is playing and
romping
around. She had no side effects from the last treatment. We are praying
and
keeping our fingers crossed that she stays in remission for a very,
very
long time. THANK YOU SO MUCH to the Magic
Bullet Fund for giving Regal the financial assistance to battle this
terrible
disease. If not for the fund, she would never have had this second
chance on
life. Every day with her is a blessing. I hope and pray that the fund
is able
to help many, many dogs in the future to fight canine cancer. The Magic
Bullet
Fund is truly Regal's guardian Angel!!
Shirley
and Regal, in remission!
August 21, 2006 I'm so
sorry that I have to ask again for the Magic Bullet Fund's assistance.
Regal had her
ultrasound today and the results are not what I had hoped or
expected. Regal has one lymph node that is slightly enlarged. All other
nodes
are normal in the spleen, liver and kidneys. The vet feels that she is
out of
remission and we started an 8-week chemo treatment protocol today. I
hope the
fund will still be able to help Regal through this second round of
chemo. It
will be 8 straight weeks - my vet will send you a new cost estimate.
Other than the
enlarged node, Regal is doing very well. She's eating and
drinking normally. She is up to 67 pounds but I expect she will lose
weight
again during chemo. I honestly thought that she would have had a better
result
in the ultrasound... I was totally crushed. Hopefully we can nip this
in the
bud and get her right back into remission.
Shirley, Regal's mommy Regal
has finished her 9 weeks of second-line chemotherapy. The new
ultrasound shows
that the one lymph node that was enlarged in August is half the size it
was,
but still larger than it should be - and she is therefore not back in
remission
YET. (There was only one enlarged node.)
Therefore, the
veterinarian recommends that we keep going to complete the
full protocol of 25 weeks (we've already
done the first 9). Regal has lost 3 pounds so far this time but she's
full of
energy, eating and drinking well, playing ball, running around and
being a
totally normal happy dog. She clearly doesn't know she's sick and no
one would
guess that she has cancer. The only giveaway sign is where her
beautiful fur
was shaved for the ultrasound.
Thank you so much
for all you've done for Regal up to now, we are grateful
beyond words. I hope the fund will be able to help us again to get
Regal back
into remission.
Shirley and Regal, fighting for another remission! November 7, 2006 On
Sunday night Regal began breathing badly. I rushed her to the emergency
hospital and they told me that she had fluid in her lungs and her
breathing was
not stable.
They kept her over night - my first night ever away from her.
On Monday morning Regal's oncologist performed many tests and found that she has developed dilated cardiomyopathy. This may be associated with Adriamycin (one of the chemo agents), or it may be due to breed-based predilections. Many thanks to you for all the help you have given to Regal to bring her this far. You have no idea how much this last year with her has meant to me. Shirley.....Regal's mommy
