Let's Make Magic!
Since there are
NO LETTERS from our readers (hint hint), I'd like to pay
special
tribute to a dog who was not helped by the fund. This is a
very special big girl, an Irish Wolfhound named
Erin.
She is the cover girl of the 2007 Brave Spirits calendar, honoring all
dogs with cancer.
I was in Kentucky at
the ACVIM convention in June, signing copies of my book Help Your Dog
Fight Cancer and talking to the veterinarians about the book and
the fund. One veterinarian asked if her dog with osteosarcoma (and
three legs) could spend the days with me rather than in the hotel room,
while mom was at seminars. I was thrilled.
Erin was fabulous on
three legs, riding the up and down escalators happily,
and disproving all who claim that large breed dogs cannot handle
amputation. But escalators were nothing for Erin! With caretaker,
Kimberly Berry DVM, Erin had earned a very
long
list of honors in competition as well: CDX, RAE,
JC, AX, OAP, OAJ, OJP, VC, FFX-AG, CGC, TDI. Many of the
vets were far from home and lonely for their own pups, and gravitated
to us to give Erin hugs and kisses... I confess, I
stole a few myself!
Sadly, osteosarcoma
has now taken Erin to the Rainbow Bridge. Erin
was a sweet
gentle soul and I was honored to spend this time with her. Godspeed,
sweet Erin.
