DON'T BE SHY!
The Magic Bullet Fund March/April 2007
A letter from Jen Swearingen

Sophie after surgery

Sophie and her loved ones (me and my family) have been through a lot this week - Sophie's right front leg was amputated yesterday! I admit that of all of us, Sophie handled it all with the most grace!

My daughter, Baylea and I left on Wednesday evening to drive Sophie to Little Rock, Arkansas for her Thursday morning surgery appointment. Laurie at the Magic Bullet Fund suggested that we make this drive to have the surgery now, rather than waiting an extra week before the surgeon would be in our local clinic.

It was so hard to leave my angel baby there. Dr. Dew called me last night to say that the surgery had gone well, and that Sophie was doing great! We were thankful and relieved that the surgey was over and she was okay but I did not sleep last night because I was so anxious to get her back into my arms.

We picked Sophie up at 7:00 this morning. I was expecting her to have to be carried to the car but, much to our surprise, she walked right out to us in the waiting room and was very excited to see us! She walked out the doors and to the car, but of course had to be lifted in. It took a little over 3 hours to get back home and she did fabulous!

We are at home now and Sophie is doing great. She is a little sleepy, probably from the narcotic medication in the pain patch, but she ate some canned tuna in oil (as prescribed by Dr. Dew), and she's now resting. We are not going to leave her alone at all for a few days!

Thanks to eveyone for the thoughts and prayers. We will now focus on Sophie's recovery and on raising donations for fund. Sophie would not have been able to have this surgery (that we hope will save her life) if not for the Magic Bullet Fund. We believe that she is Cancer Free, and she will brighten our days and lives for many more years!

We are all honored that Sophie was chosen as the special dog in this month's Magic Bullet Fund newsletter! We are grateful to everyone who has read Sohie's story.

Thank you Laurie, Malea and the Magic Bullet Fund from the bottom of our hearts!

Jenny, Daryl, Baylea and Sophie
