Kirby
is having the DNA vaccine
therapy
for oral melanoma, in development by Merial with conditional
licensing. Administered by Alice Villalobos DVM in Woodland Hills CA.
Kirby has not developed any further
melanoma tumors. She will have a
treatment every 3 months at a cost of $500.00 per
treatment. At some of these treatments she will also need x-rays taken
to check for metastases. Please go to Kirby's page in the MBF forum for
more information (see link below).
About the DNA
Vaccine for canine malignant melanoma:
The
vaccine is administered into the inner thigh muscle of the dog with
a needle-free Canine Transdermal Device. Initial treatment requires
administration of four doses of vaccine, one every two weeks. After
this initial series, dogs receive one booster every six months. Each
time dogs receive a dose, their immune response becomes stronger in the
fight against melanoma.
