NAKKAI DRIBER
See Nakkai in the Newspaper!
10-year-old Siberian Husky
Diagnosis: nerve sheath tumor
Treatment: radiation therapy
In MBF 4/07
- 11/27/11
Funded: $3,820.58

This beautiful girl came into the Magic Bullet Fund in March 2007 with a schwannoma tumor on her leg. She had surgery and then radiation therapy, with assistance from the Magic Bullet Fund. Nakkai beat cancer but now, 4 years and 9 months later, she has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. I will miss Nakkai and I send my deepest sympathies to her family, Sharon and Rich.

Nakkai's cancer journey holds a message for all who have dogs needing radiation. She did not have the standard raditation protocol that the doctors prefer to do. This involves 5 treatments a week and the dogs go home only for weekends. Nakkai had a gentler protocol that involves treatment Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In this protocol, the dogs never have to stay in-hospital overnight, they go home every night. They do not get the severe radiation burns and other side effects and it is much less expensive for the owners.

When discussing treatment options, the doctors call this protocol "palliative" as opposed to "curative." The word palliative scares people because we don't want "end of life care," we want "curative" radiation treatment for our dogs.

I fought to get Nakkai into the gentler protocol. She had treatment only Monday Wednesday and Friday and she got to go home every night. She did not have severe burns. This "palliative" protocol, as is often the case, was not "palliative" at all, it was curative! Nakkai is the proof.

TUCKER WILKINSON
3-year-old Mix
Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 7/21/11 - 11/22/11
Funded: $1,105.00

Tucker is the most gentle, loving, sweet and affectionate dog! He is the favorite of my friends and family, and they feel that he is the perfect family dog. There is not a mean bone in his body. He's sweet, loves to cuddle and can lay there forever to be loved on. He is a rescue and is only 3 years old. I'm devastated beyond words.
I am a single mother with a lot of mouths to feed. I have been looking for full-time work, going on endless interviews and have received countless rejections. We are barely, just barely, getting by.
I want to do my best for Tucker and be able to give him the best that I can give him. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to the Magic Bullet Fund for their help and assistance. I want to thank all who donate to help Tucker. Thank you all , from every fiber of my being, for helping give this precious boy a chance.
- Ali Wilkinson

November 22, 2011
Tucker just passed away. I'm so devastated that I can barely write this. My Sugar Plum was such a sweet, innocent boy.
I thank MBF and all of those kind people who donated on behalf of Tucker. Words cannot express how grateful Tucker and I are. Because of you, Tucker and I had 5 more wonderful months together. He was able to continue to enjoy his sister and me, his home cooked meats and rice, snuggling and his trips to the barn and woods to play. You all will forever be in my heart for your generosity and kindness. My precious Sugar Plum will always be in my heart and soul. I will so greatly miss him, his kindness, his gentleness, his amazing love and devotion.

DUTCH RODRIGUEZ
6-year-old Pitbull / Lab
Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 11/5/11 - 11/20/11
Funded: $275.00

Dutch was born on 08/07/2005. He was part of an animal cruelty case and seizure. The shelter where I volunteered received a call from a Con Edison worker who had been sent to turn off the electricity at a house and made a shocking discovery. He found a closet full of dogs, including 2 adult females, and 15 puppies. Upon arrival at the shelter, 3 of Dutch's siblings were dead. Dutch still had his umbilical cord attached, was covered in feces and dirt, and had ear mites. The owners were prosecuted for animal cruelty.
Two of the puppies died, so out of 9 puppies, just 4 were left. Because they were still being held as evidence for court, they could not be adopted out. A shelter worker convinced me to hold them, and I fell in love with them. The boy kept coming over to me and pushing all of his sisters to the side. He shined so much I laughed. Disturbed that these puppies could possibly grow up in the animal shelter, I asked the manager if I could take a puppy home. I agreed to produce the puppy to the court upon request if needed and I was allowed to adopt hin -- Dutch -- on 10/13/2005.
My beautiful boy has been wreaking havoc on my life ever since, and I simply cannot live without him. Dutch has grown so close to my 4-year-old daughter, Tier. He is her best friend. I would give my right arm to fund his treatment.
Please help us to keep our beautiful dog here with us. I simply cannot afford Dutch's treatment. I am a single mother, and pre-law student with very limited income. Tier and I thank you all for your help and kindness, and we thank the Magic Bullet Fund for making our wish and dreams come true. We will be forever indebted to you all.

From Yana and Julia
Robbie is a very important part of our family. Here is our first family pet and we love him dearly. After finding out that a beloved member of our family was sick with Cancer we were distraught. The doctors told us that his treatment would be costly, and unfortunately we were unable to pay what the hospital wanted for his treatment, we almost lost all hope until we got word from the Magic Bullet Fund, that they would help us. Now we have hope that Robbie will be treated and will be okay. We love Robbie with all our hearts and we just want to see him live to be another year older. Thank you for your help and support.

July 1, 2011

We got the best call this week. Robbie's tests came back and he is in remission.
He is doing great. He is full of energy. I can't thank you enough.  We couldn't do it without MBF. Thank you so much!

November 21, 2011
Unfortunately Robbie Rudakov passed away yesterday and although it is a very sad time for our family we are SO thankful to the Magic Bullet Fund for everything they have done for our family and for Robbie. They helped give us more time with our little pooch and we treasured every minute of it. We cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. ♥ The Rudakov Family

That is changing now and I am getting back to work.I hope it is not too late for him.He is fighting a good fight with this cancer but needs all the help and love he can get.

JOHNNY ELIZONDO
7-year-old Boxer
Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 3/29/11 - 10/1/11
Funded: $660.00

Johnny has been a God sent gift of unconditional love for me. He has been by my side through divorce, bankruptcy, unemployment, life's trials and tribulations. The times I walked through deep valleys Johnny was there to shower me with kisses, always waiting for me behind every closed door. Johnny is an angel sent to remind me that I was loved and appreciated. Without a single word having been said, he knows what's up with me. He knows when I need a good jog, a fun game of fetch & keep-away, a hug, a cuddle buddy, tuna fish kisses, and just a friend to listen. He is my child and has slept by my side day in and day out for seven years.
It's a miracle to be accepted in the Magic Bullet Fund! To be given an opportunity to share my story with the world and have kind samaritans extend their hands to bless me with funds for Johnny's cancer treatment.
Thank you to all those that find it in their heart to help and to bless us with some extended time to make more happy memories.

CHARITY MORGAN
8-year-old Chihuahua
Diagnosis: Mammary Cancer
Treatment: Herbal chemotherapy
In MBF: 6/8/11 - 9/22/11
Funded: $45.00

I rescued Charity three years ago from a high kill shelter. She has been by my side wherever I go in the house and sleeps in bed next to me. She is so full of love and appreciation that someone actually cares about her and you can see it in her eyes. She is a real sweetheart. It is killing me to know she might not make it and she won't be around. When I found out she had mammary cancer I was devastated. I love this dog so much and want to do whatever is possible to try to save her. I did not know how I was going to deal with the treatments and medication costs involved to help her.

I can't express how I felt when I found out Magic Bullet Fund will give her a chance. I am so appreciative that someone cares enough and will at least give her a chance. Thank you Magic Bullet Fund for all you do to help these
sick animals and their owners who are trying desperately to save them. Without you they would not have a chance.

DAGGIT THOME
9 year old Australian Shepherd/Lab mix
Diagnosis: Osteosarcoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF 10/26/09
- 9/20/11
Funded: $750.00

From Nicole
I adopted Daggit as a 9-week old pup at a puppy rescue in Colorado. She's an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix (to the best of my knowledge). She was so smart and such a little spitfire at the puppy rescue. I knew I had to have her. She’s a real sweetheart and an absolute momma’s girl. It is important to me that my dog receives treatment because it's the only thing I can do to know that I did whatever I could for her to live a much longer life.  She's only 8 years old and I feel like she has a lot of time left.
Overall, I feel optimistic that Daggit will make a full recovery!
ABBEY ELSESSER
9-year-old mix
Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 11/19/10 - 9/13/11
Funded: $1,850.00

From Keri Elsesser
When I took Abbey to the vet for her swollen neck I was not prepared to hear that she had cancer. It blew me away. My heart sank into my stomach. The grief was unbelievable. I was told that she needed chemotherapy, which we just couldn't afford due to me being laid off. I left there thinking Abbey only had a couple of months to live. The release papers came to my email box from MSU with information about the Magic Bullet Fund. I submitted my application and prayed! This was our only answer, this is what we needed to give Abbey a fighting chance.
Today, I got the call that we were going to receive funding and it was like I won the lottery! This huge weight was lifted, because we couldn't have given her this treatment without help. I literally jumped up and down when I got that call. When we hung up I called my husband, my mother and my sister to let them know. My husband called his entire family to share the news. The entire family loves Abbey and was hoping for us. We are all celebrating Christmas early this year thanks to the Magic Bullet Fund!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

July 1, 2011
Abbey finished her treatments and is in full remission! Thank you!!

CHELSEA TENDLER
9-year-old Shepherd mix
Diagnosis: TCC urethral tumor
Treatment: Surgery
In MBF: 9/5/11-9/6/11

*
MBF hoped to fund a potentially life saving surgery for Chelsea. Sadly, her cancer progressed more quickly than expected and she went to the Rainbow Bridge the day after coming into the fund.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and my dog, Chelsea, a German Shepherd mix, is my 24/7 companion and service dog. She is my lifeline to more independence and safety. Chelsea means everything to me. She's my right hand, my heart and my guide, reminding me never to lose hope even on the difficult days. When I am bed-bound from MS relapses, right next to me is always Chelsea, lifting my spirits and then lifting me literally. When I fall, Chelsea stands in front of me and braces me so that I can get up. She gives me balance and pulls me so I can walk, instead of using my scooter, which helps me keep my legs from atrophying. She alerts people if I am in distress because I get convulsions.
You might not know it from looking at her but all 116 pounds of her is one big, cuddling teddy bear. She is my family and has been truly a miracle to me but now she needs her own miracle. Chelsea has been diagnosed with Cancer. She desperately needs surgery so that she can urinate. I am desperate for help and scared that I might not be able to help her now, when she has given me so much.
I am devastated and need all the help I can get to save Chelsea's life. I cry myself to sleep every night, not knowing how to save my beloved Chelsea's life. The Magic Bullet Fund and it's donors are my last hope. You are Chelsea's last hope and I ask you all from the bottom of my heart to help me help her. We will both be eternally grateful. I thank the Magic Bullet Fund and every single donor who reaches out to us with a lifeline for Chelsea. Together we can save her life.
- With heartfelt appreciation, Laura Tendler and Chelsea

From Sadye and Tim
We are so grateful that Maxine has been accepted into the Magic Bullet Fund! Words cannot express our gratitude for all of the support and resources Laurie and her volunteers have provided as well as for everyone who has donated to Maxine's fund. My husband and I just rescued Maxine July of this year. She was living tethered to a tree totally neglected and was physically abused. Just as she got her new lease on life, we found out the devastating news that she has lymphoma. Although we could not afford the treatments necessary on our own, we knew we just had to find a way to support the financial burden of chemotherapy. Maxine is the happiest, most energetic and fun loving dog who LOVES to chase her ball and play with her friends. She deserves the chance to live life as all dogs should, in a happy home where she is showered with love daily!
Thank you so much Magic Bullet Fund, it's because of you and the supporters that Max is enjoying the good life!

ANGEL LOVING

Funded: $1705.00

From Stacia
On October 26th, 2009, Angel was diagnosed with lymphoma, the worst day of my life. Over the weekend I battled with denial and did not want to accept the fact that my baby might not be around for Christmas. Reading everything I could find on the Internet, I came across Laurie Kaplan’s book “Help Your Dog Fight Cancer.” The book has been one of the best investment of my life.
After reading the book and deciding which protocol was best for my Angel, I realized I could not afford the treatments needed to help Angel fight this horrible disease. At that time, I reached out to the Magic Bullet Fund, for financial assistance.  After submitting Angel’s application, the week waiting on whether or not they would be able to help was forever long. The day I opened my email and saw we were accepted, ANGEL’S PRAYERS AND MINE WERE ANSWERED.
Angel is now in remission and doing well. She is an Angel, a fighter and a huge part of my life.  I could not imagine life without her.

We want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for giving my Angel a chance to battle this horrible disease.

She has been a part of our families life ever since she was a puppy. Sara has always been a very special dog, especially to our kids! When we found out that Sara was diagnosed with a Fiber Sarcoma in her left eye, we were devastated. She looked after our kids all these years and now it was our turn to take care of her when she became sick. But unfortunately vet bills are bigger than our family can handle. So with a little research we came across a foundation called The Magic Bullet Fund. When they said they would help us it was like a godsend. We are very thankful for the help that we are receiving from everyone to help put that hope in our Sara’s eyes as she did ours. The world would be a much better place if we had more people and organizations like The Magic Bullet Fund! So If you could please help “ Sara” and our family, thank you and god bless.

Our darling girl who has responded so fantastic to her first three chemo treatments, was going to be saved. We did not know how we were going to come up with the $6,000.00 plus that was needed for her treatments over the next few months, only that we would find the funds with the help of friends, strangers and a host of wonderful people thru the Magic Bullet Fund. Marley is an amazing dog. He is an 8-year-old golden retriever and is as beautiful, intelligent and loving as you can imagine. His loving nature is why we chose goldens in the first place but we didn't know how susceptible they were to cancer. We lost our first golden, Jordan, at age 6 to cancer. Marley has cheered the lives of many people in the last 7 years as a therapy dog (registered with Therapy Dogs International) visiting nursing homes and hospitals in Orange County. We would be lost without him.

I found King outside of my apartment, very malnourished and infested with ticks. He has such an amazing personality! He loves children and loves playing with other dogs. He follows me around everywhere and you can see how much joy he has in his beautiful honey eyes.

May 16, 2011
I am sadly writing to inform you that I had to put my baby King to sleep today. He was diagnosed about a month ago with cancer again.... He was starting to suffer and I could not put him through any more pain. Tears roll down my face as I am trying to stay stong while writing this. He brought so much happiness and joy into my life and I gave him the best life possible! I took him in off the streets as a rescue dog and I gave him the best life possible! He died comfortably in my arms this morning and is no longer in pain or suffering, that's all I care about! He is in Heaven now and happy with out pain.

It's because of your foundation that I had him in my life for the last year and a half, and words can not express how truly grateful I am. Please keep King in your prayers and again thank you for helping me give him the last best years of his life!

When I first was told that my beautiful dog Madison had cancer I was sick to my stomach. My daughter called a cancer clinic here in Miami and that is when I first heard of the Magic Bullet Fund. I prayed that someone would see my beautiful dog and maybe, just maybe someone would help me. Well I got that phone call on Saturday, a cheerful voice saying YES! They would help Madison! That was Laurie Kaplan. I felt that a heavy dark cloud was lifted. Now I have hope that my dog will beat this ugly cancer. I want to give a million thanks to Laurie and her wonderful staff for helping Madison and many other wonderful dogs that now have a chance because of them. They truely are a friend to animals.
SEABISCUIT FOY
3-year-old Corgi/Chihuahua
Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 10/7/10
- 3/22/11
Funded:   $1,490.00

From Reffie & Evelyne
The first time we saw Seabiscuit, he was a lost, cute puppy on a very busy street. We were completely won over and wanted him and fortunately, no one came forward to claim him. My wife came up with the name Seabiscuit because like the race horse, he was very fast. Because he was very curious and known to dart when the door opened, we are very protective over him. We made sure we had a fence in our yard and a screen door.
The recent diagnosis that Seabiscuit has Lymphoblastic Lymphoma saddens our family deeply. He is only three and a half years old! In addition to the recent diagnosis, both my wife and I had lost our jobs and are dealing with health issues. Weeks after I lost my own mother to cancer, we were shocked to find out Seabiscuit has cancer.
The Magic Bullet fund is a Godsend. It offers hope to what seems hopeless. Our family was elated when we found out that the Magic Bullet Fund is going to help with the necessary medical treatments for Seabiscuit. We know that his form of cancer is not curable. However, we believe that Seabiscuit is too young to die. Without chemotherapy he doesn’t stand a chance and would die very soon. We are so grateful that having the treatments will extend Seabiscuit’s life. We are so blessed that this organization exists for dogs like our Seabiscuit. We are grateful that the Magic Bullet fund took an interest in us and is willing to help. On behalf of our beloved Seabiscuit, our children and us, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  God bless.

After finding out that our Marley was accepted into the Magic Bullet Fund, we knew that our dreams of saving him had come true! Without the help of this organization and the huge hearts of so many individuals we would have had to make the most horrible decision ever and have our baby, our companion, our furry child put to sleep. A cancer diagnosis for someone you love is the most devastating news to hear and even more upsetting to know that we are only a surgery away from a cure yet due to financial restrictions, it seemed impossible. Marley can now receive the surgery he needs to survive and continue to make our lives as rich as he always has. When we rescued Marley from a shelter 8 years ago, we had no idea what a true member of our family he would become.  He is always willing to go on car rides, walks, family camping trips or just hang out in the backyard to watch over the kids while they are playing. He has truly become such a HUGE part of our lives that any day that does not include him in it just doesn't make sense.  Thank you so much for making this happen and allowing him to remain a part of our lives for many more years to come. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

March 18, 2011

It is with a heavy heart that I write that Marley passed away on Friday March 18th. His cancer was growing much faster than any vet could anticipate and the cancer won. It has been an extremely sad weekend for the Weaver family, but we do know that Rainbow Bridge gained another angel and he is no longer in any pain. We believe that he is running around in the sunshine, cancer free with all the people food he can eat. Thank you so much for opening up your hearts and accepting us into the MBF Family.

When I received the news that the Magic Bullet Fund was going to
help my dog Jager, I wanted to cry with relief. Finally there is a chance that I can get the much needed sugery for my dog that can ultimately save his life. Like most dog owners, Jager is like my child, I spoil him to no end and love him with all my heart. So when I realized I couldn't afford the cancer treatment he needs, I was devastated! Since I received the email saying that Jager and I were accepted for this assistance, I feel like I can breathe again. Jager is going to get the treatment he needs and be able to stay the happy, active, ball-loving dog that he is now. Life without Jager is unimaginable to me and now with the help of the Magic Bullet Fund, I don't have to think about that very scary thought.

March 10, 2011

This is so hard for me to write, but I had to put Jager down this morning.  The cancer had spread to his lungs and after months of out living the predictions from the vets the cancer finally won.  Thank you for giving me these 10 extra months, they have meant the world to me. Thank you for giving so many more memories with my baby.

I have known Laurie for many years now and I've seen the wonderful work that she does through the Magic Bullet Fund, to help the sweet babies that get that horrible diagnosis of cancer. I never thought  I would have need of help from MBF, but recently found out that my girl Sofie has lymphoma.
I can't put into words the relief I feel, that there is an organization that helps those of us who can't afford treatment for our sick dogs. During this stressful time there is so much to worry about, and not having to stress about not having the funds to pay for treatment is a Blessing.

I thank Magic Bullet fund for giving me hope, and that is priceless.

Gizmo has been my companion through very difficult times. She trusts me implicitly and sniffs the areas of my body that she knows hurt. I help to trap and release feral cats by fostering them. Gizmo licks and loves even the new kittens nursing on a bottle. She is the world to me and I am to her, I can see it in her eyes and when she smiles at me (which she does). She's my constant companion since I have been disabled and keeps a smile on my face when nothing else could. I need her and she needs me. I would give anything to see her run again, without pain.
From Rhena (Naomi’s daughter)
I am Gizmo's other mommy, Rhena. Gizmo has been a companion for me, my mom, and my son for a decade and we need to give back to her for all she has done for us. She has so much energy left and her other vitals look really good. She has a chance wants to run again and be in less pain. Fighting the cancer comes next but first we have to get this arm amputated, it hurts her so badly!
We are so grateful for the presence and work of Magic Bullet Fund and all who donate to and for these beautiful babies.

January 27, 2011
Tomorrow at 11.30 pacific the vet will be coming to help Gizmo on her way to the Bridge. It is definitely the right time. She is happy and eating everything in the world that I can think of that she likes, and lots of water. Sadly, she can no longer stand up on her own and she is very pale. She also has lost quite a bit of blood and her back right leg (same side as the cancer) is definitely hurting her. Please light a candle or say a prayer for our brave girl!!! Thank you for giving her so much extra quality time.

From Claudia and Dowing
The Magic Bullet Fund came to our rescue this year. Your organization could not have come at a better time. My husband Dowing and I were facing the decision of stopping treatment, in order to pay our rent. That's a horrible decision for any dog owner to have to make. Exactly one month ago, we lost our older dog Tyson who was 10 years old. Soon after we received news that Ginger's biopsy came back positive for lymphoma. I felt distraught and terrified at the thought of losing her. She's only 4 years old. Thank God things are turning around and we have a new sense of hope. This week I received the great news that Magic Bullet Fund would help Ginger. We are so grateful and incredibly happy that we can continue Ginger's chemotherapy. When we got Ginger, she brought so much joy and happiness to our home. She is a happy girl.  To me there's nothing better than coming home and seeing that little wagging tail letting us know she is so happy to see us. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

We got Isabelle when she was 8 weeks old from a local rescue. We found out she had lymphoma the day after she turned one. She is such an amazing puppy. She is our furry child. She is our daughter's best friend. We couldn't imagine our life without Isabelle. She has made such an impact in everyones life who knows her. I can't even describe how happy we were when we found out the Magic Bullet Fund was going to help us. We are so grateful. Thank you again for the amazing work you do.

Funded: $600.00

From Cindy
Maxx found me at the Humane Society. As some choose a dog, Maxx chose me. He followed me around, seeming to know I needed him and that he would be going home with me. Several weeks later he did and hasn't left my side. Although he's 10 he still acts like that puppy. He loves to run, chase birds, and bark so everyone know he's watching out for me. No one believes his age or that he is sick due to his disposition. Maxx helped me through a difficult time, I'd like to do the same for him.
Thank you so much for accepting Maxx into the program. Once I found out that he would be able to get the necessary treatment because of the Magic Bullet Fund I was so relieved. It's reassuring to know that there are those out there that care, and are willing to extend a helping hand. I really can't express how grateful I am

We were just going to foster Jordan until we could find her a good home,I fell in love with her and couldn’t give her up.  She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma last week. Needless to say, we are devastated. Her front leg needs to be amputated to give her the best chances of survival.  At this time, we cannot afford the surgery without help. but
Jordan and Chris and I can’t thank you enough for the help you offer us in this fight against canine cancer.

ROCKY WESTBROOK
7-year-old Rat Terrier mix

Diagnosis: Mast Cell Cancer
Treatment: Chemotherapy

In MBF: 10/5/10 - 10/24/10
Funded: $400.00

From Robin & Darrell
We found Rocky at a local animal shelter adoption fair in December of 2008 and fell in love. He had some obvious skin issues but seemed to be a happy little fella with a great personality. He immediately took to us, our home and seemed to be happy to have a home, at last. He'd belonged to an elderly gentleman for 5 years, then was in the shelter for 11 months.
He started having health problems within a few months and we tried to stay ahead of them as best we could. In April of this year, he had a growth removed from over his neutering scar and it turned out to be Mast Cell Tumor disease, grade II with questionable margins on the underside. He went through 16 radiation treatments and we were told he was doing fine. Within two months, we found another lump behind his right ear, then one behind his left.

Now he has one on his shoulder and really needs surgery and chemotherapy. He is a little trouper and we are grateful for any and all help we can get for him. Our lives wouldn't be the same without him. He will be 8 in 6 weeks and we think that is just a bit young to be leaving us, especially since we have not had him 2 full years. Oh, and yes, he is spoiled rotten and loved with all our hearts.
APOLLO SASSANI
8-year-old Samoyed

Funded: $450.00

From Diane
When I learned Apollo was accepted into the Magic Bullet Fund, I was so very grateful. When I received his devastating diagnosis, I didn't know where to turn. While researching Apollo's condition, I discovered the Magic Bullet Fund. Apollo is such a special dog and I wanted to give him every chance. He greets me at the door with a big hellooo! Apollo was in bad shape when I rescued him, but has since had many healthy years. He visits the medical facilities where I work as a nurse and provides comfort as well as comic relief to the patients. Apollo means everything to me,and has given me joy and companionship, so now with the Magic Bullet Fund's assistance as well as the excellent care and treatment provided by his veterinarian, I can give something back to him.
Thank you Magic Bullet Fund Family from both of us!
TABATHA MILLER
4-year-old Springer Spaniel
Diagnosis: Osteosarcoma
Treatment: Radiation & Chemotherapy

In MBF: 5/25/10 - 9/8/10
Funded: $1,500.00

From Tana and Jennifer
We can't even begin to descibe how happy we were to receive that much needed phone call from the Magic Bullet Fund --- letting us know that they had accepted Tabatha's application.  It was so heartbreaking to look at our precious little dog - so young - and so full of life . . . . and not know how we were possiblly going to come up with the funds to get her the treatment she needs and deserves.  The support and help that the Magic Bullet provides is an act of kindness that will never be forgotten.
Tabatha has been such an important part of our family since she was just a puppy.  A friend of ours once read a quote that said, "I just want to be the person that my dog thinks I am".   Tabatha, like all dogs has a way of stealing your heart . . . . inspiring you. . . . . helping you to enjoy the important and sometimes simplest things in life.  She'll look up at you with that adorable little face as if to tell you -- that everything is going to be alright --- as if to tell you that she is not giving up and asking us not to either.
Thank you for taking the time to read Tabatha's story and for the support to our family.
DIEGO RICE

Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 8/5/10 - 9/2/10
Funded: $450.00

From Sharon
When you let me know that Diego was accepted into the family I was ELATED to say the least. I have been wracking my brains to find ways to get the medical treatment that he needs. This acceptance into the Magic Bullet has lifted a very large burden off my heart and helped me focus more on getting Diego better. He is back to being a happy farm dog and my best friend is back in every sense of the word. Again Thank you all for bringing us into the family.

Sept. 2, 2010

Sadly Diego passed over the rainbow bridge tonight at 9:21. It is one of the toughest decisions that I have EVER had to make in my life. Without a crystal ball and the lottery I don't think there was anything else for me to do but make this decision. In total over the last 24 hours he had 4 seizures.
I was very fortunate to have 2 of my dear friends and one of the also our house and critter sitter to meet me on the drive over there. Another one canceled out of evening plans after I called to let her know what was going on. Diego was surrounded by a lot of the people he knew and loved. He did come to enough that I feel he knew I was there. I told him “If you are tired, I understand and it’s OK to give up the fight.”
Thank you all for the help love and support. This is going to be a even longer road for me to travel down now as it is missing one of the most important parts of my life.

From Rita, August 8, 2010
It is with profound sadness and a deeply broken heart that I must tell you that I lost my beloved Mooba today. He was a wonderful and much loved member of my family and will forever be in my heart. He left a void that cannot be filled. He was happy and in good spirits until the last two days, then his little body just could not fight anymore. Today was the hardest day of my life and taking him to the vet to say goodbye was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make, but I could not bear to see him struggle to breath. I feel like I have thrown him away even through the vet said that it was the right thing to do. I truley love him and will miss him forever. Thank you and the Magic Bullet Fund for helping me to have this extra time with him.
Thank you again, Rita, missing Moo!

3 1/2-year-old Doberman
Diagnosis: Mast Cell
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF: 7/15/10 - 7/21/10
Funded: $375.50

From Andrea
This letter is to let everyone in the world know how relieved I felt when the Magic Bullet Fund agreed to help me and my Kiki. The relief I felt is unimaginable because I had been putting Kiki in jeopardy by only giving her Chemotherapy treatments once a month instead of weekly. This was actually making things worse. Things have been very tough because of the economy and I am the only one working. Not being able to fully help Kiki was killing me and keeping me up at night. Finally now she will have a chance at life by receiving the treatments she needs and deserves. Kiki is a very special dog, not just because she is mine, but she because she is the glue that holds the family together. She has a unique and strong personality. This personality also gave her the knowledge to know when I get sick with low blood sugar in the middle of the night alerting the household to get me sugar.
SAMANTHA KELLY

Diagnosis: Lymphoma
Treatment: Chemotherapy
In MBF 10/15/09 - 7/14/10
Funded: $600.00

From Kristine
Samantha is my best friend. I got her when she was three months old. She'd been thrown from a moving car and her leg was broken. A witness took her to a local kill shelter where a volunteer got her leg fixed and fostered her. I was lucky to adopt this beautiful, sweet, and shy dog. She's never really gotten over her fear from the abuse she probably suffered as a puppy, but is happy at home with me and the other dogs. She deserves a chance to live after all she's been through.
RUSTY DAVIDSON
8-year-old Retriever
Diagnosis: lymphoma
Treatment: chemotherapy
In MBF: 1/18/10 - 6/5/10
Funded: $1,690.00

From Kathy and George,
He is such a good loving gentle boy. A couple weeks before Christmas I noticed that I could feel his nodes by his throat. We took him to the vet immediately and learned that he did indeed have lymphoma. Our vet said that without treatment he might have a couple months. We love him so very much and he has such a big heart. We just cannot imagine our lives without him there beside us. Knowing that there is something that could put him in remission but not being able to pay for it is torture. We were so heartbroken for Rusty. I found the Magic Bullet Fund and applied. I could not believe that we were accepted!!  Rusty will get the chance to beat this awful disease with their help! We cannot express how thankful and relieved we are, at being able to offer him a chance with MBF assistance. Thank you all so much!
GRETA FIELDS
10-year-old Weimaraner
Diagnosis Primary lung cancer
Treatment: Surgery; Chemo
In MBF 6/08 -4/14/2010
Funded: $1,766.40

From Rozanna and Greg
Greta went to the Rainbow bridge last night. I feel like a piece of me is missing. Greg feels like a piece of his heart has been punched in. Caelan is still having a hard time understanding why he won't ever see her again - he's sad, then angry - typical 5 yo behavior -  but it is heart breaking to see him this upset. Dashiell seems lost. Wants to stay close to us.
The house is much quieter now. I no longer trip over her while cooking dinner -- but all I can say is this: I long for the sound of her barks and for her laying right there in the middle of the kitchen. I miss her.
Thanks for giving us 23 more months with our girl! Truth is ... it's never enough. I'm happy that she is in heaven and at peace, but deeply saddened that we will never see that pretty little face again.
Much Love and Gratitude, Rozanna + Greg + Caelan and Dashiell

I am writing to thank you, and your wonderful organization for enabling my Buster to get the treatment he needs for his tumor. Your  caring and consideration for one of the best people I know, have they  4 legs or 2, is a miracle in evidence. Your coordination with the  veterinary surgeon at Virginia Tech, as well as your great amount of
knowledge of canine cancer has enabled Buster to receive the best care  possible, which would otherwise have not been possible.

I want to thank you and your entire staff for the hard work and  dedication to the cause of fighting canine cancer. The world will  remain a much better place because my Buster will still be in it,  Thanks to all of you.

I'm so amazed at how much support I've gotten from everyone here.  When I get in a better financial situation, I will be donating to help other people the way so many have helped me.  I wanted to personally thank you so much for sending a copy of your book.  I've already read so much of it and feel so much better prepared to deal with this disease. And now my new motto is "Not today and Not without fight".  Just wanted to share that with you and let you know I appreciate you and you sharing Bullet's story, as well as, the wealth of information that you have.
Thanks for hanging in there with me and helping me through this scary experience. I appreciate everything you do to help us.
ALEX GAGNON
10-year-old Shih Tzu
Lymphoma
Treatment: chemotherapy
In MBF 6/10/09-12/09
Funded: $1,220.00

Our precious little Alex is a small black and white shih tzu that was surrendered to us a few months ago. It was obvious when we saw Alex for the first time that he had been hurt very badly and had been neglected. Still, he was a happy little boy with great spirit and a strong will to live. He came into our home and it was like he had always been here, and it was obviously he felt this was where he wanted to be. It didn't take him long to convince us that we could not live without him.
We couldn't fix all of the wrongs done to him in his past, but we were determined that he would have a wonderful life and know only love and gentle touch.
Sadly, Alex was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma and after talking with our vet, we all felt that Alex was a good candidate for chemotherapy. The chemotherapy is very expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

Blizzard needs to survive - this world is a much better place with him in it.
Blizzard is pure love and joy. He warms everyone's heart, He is only four years old, and strong and healthy otherwise. Blizzard can survive with a combination of treatments and live a good quality of life. Blizzard was set to undergo training to become a therapy dog for children with cancer. I am a teacher and this summer I would love nothing more than to help Blizzard heal, and help him inspire children who are going through the pain and suffering ofthis horrible disease. Blizzard needs your help so that together we can make big plans for him to make a difference in this world.

My dog "Regal" was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma in Nov. 2005.  Without the help from this fund, my precious Regal would never have survived for more than 3-4 weeks.I'm happy to say that she now is in COMPLETE REMISSION. More and more dogs are surviving cancer everyday.  The treatments are there but alot of the time people just can't afford to treat their pet.
I am one of those people. I am disabled and I live on a fixed income.  Imagine my heartache when I was told that Regal will not survive without chemotherapy, and the protocol would be 25 weeks long and the cost will be over $4000.00.  I just broke down in tears and cried my heart out.
When I asked family and friends if there was anyway to help out with the costs, there were those words again....."it's just a dog"....or "get another dog it will be ok".  Well, Regal is NOT just a dog, she's my best friend and loyal companion. I could not just sit by and watch her die when there are ways to help her to survive. That's when I found the Magic Bullet Fund. They are Regal's guardian angels.  They helped to give her a chance to live.....and she is!  She is in her 17th week of treatment and is doing wonderful!

From Jacie
After a seven month fight against ovarian cancer, Chloe showed the first real signs any discomfort and as I held her while "Dr. Jenny" did another Chest Tap, I realized that it was time for me to consider that the cancer may be taking over.  I wrote to Laurie (Magic Bullet Fund) to update her on Chloe's condition and to share my mixed emotions and she very wisely advised me that Chloe would let me know when it was "time".
That Tuesday night, Chloe had a difficult time breathing while lying down to sleep and I made the decision to take her to "Dr Jenny" on Thursday so she would not be in pain. Wednesday, Chloe was in excellent spirits as we took the day off and relaxed in the sun, played for a bit, got brushed, took photos, went for a ride in the car (where she proudly held her head out the window), visited some of her friends, went for a short walk by the ocean and shared lots of hugs & kisses.  My sweet, loving, dedicated, intelligent, beautiful, funny, shiny, playful and thoughtful best friend did in fact choose her time - at the end of our perfect day together doing all the things she loved. Chloe passed at home in my arms Wednesday evening, February 8, 2006 while I whispered in her ear over and over "You're a good girl and I love you."

I thank God for the privilege of being owned by Chloe for the (all too short) time that He allowed.  Chloe taught me many lessons and I am better for having known her.  I have made many wonderful and cherished friends through Chloe.  Friends that have offered their love and support, such as Dr. Jenny Schiebert and Shadowridge Veterinary Clinic, Auntie Karen, "Big Daddy", "Uncle Rob" and "Auntie Laurie" Kaplan and The Magic Bullet Fund~ without their love and support, Chloe would not have had the rich and healthy life that she did.   Thank you and may God bless you and your "Angels"-
